Mesh Settlement News – Endo International announced on April 30, 2014, that it has agreed in principle to pay $830 million to resolve approximately 20,000 legal claims brought by women who said they were injured by the company’s transvaginal mesh products. The company stated that the $830 million settlement is not an admission of liability or fault.
According to a company press release, the agreement will cover a substantial majority of the mesh lawsuits brought against Endo’s American Medical Systems (AMS) subsidiary. Endo’s transvaginal mesh products are used to surgically repair pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI.)
Thousands of vaginal mesh lawsuits are also pending against Boston Scientific, Bard, and Johnson & Johnson for their vaginal mesh products. Some of the mesh complications reported by women include erosion of mesh through vaginal tissue, bleeding, infection, painful intercourse, vaginal scarring or shrinkage, and product failure. Many patients required additional surgeries to remove the mesh from their bodies.
